Training

LSA Offers a variety of training videos. Please click the links below to go to the specific pages. Please note: Exclusive Membership Training is listed in your members pages. LSA always encourages participants to maintain the highest level of safety.

SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of any training.

Velocities

Velocities are short training exchanges, that are meant to be done over and over to improve muscle memory. In our system each velocity has 4 exchanges. There are 3 velocities per rank.

Velocities are intended to be done with 2 students moving back and forth during the exercise. The exchange is normally practiced with the first student advancing and attacking for 2 sequences, while the second student retreats. Then the students reverse direction, with the  second student advancing and attacking, while the first student is now defending and retreating.  Each velocity is inspired by a specific Star Wars form, and will be demonstrated at speed as well as individually in a walk through under the Instructor Membership Section.

Forms

The LSA Forms were inspired by the 7 Star Wars Lightsaber forms taught by the Jedi Temple.

Each form has a very detailed and intricate history in the Star Wars universe. It is not LSA's intention to teach Star Wars history, but in order to honor the amazing history, we are providing what LSA feels is the best historical information, in the form of a third party text and video links, designated with an * symbol. Please note that LSA has no association with these fan based historical information links.

There are 3 Forms for each Rank in the LSA system. There are complete detailed walk through videos under the Instructor Membership Section.

Flow

Flow is a concept inspired by Star Wars. It is the practice among the lightsaber community, of free flowing forms that come from spontaneous movement. In essence the participant moves the saber in a flowing manner from one movement to another in a continuous flowing motion. The user may stop from time to time in guarded positions, release the saber into the air, or move about. The following Flows are intended to follow the 7 forms of lightsaber training taught by the Jedi Temples. These flows, like all others are simply interpretations of the intended form.

It is not LSA's intention to teach Star Wars history, but in order to honor the amazing history, we are providing what LSA feels is the best historical information, in the form of a third party text and video links, designated with an * symbol. Please note that LSA has no association with these fan based historical information links.

Blocking

There are 3 basic blocking systems in the LSA system.  One blocking system per rank.

1 - Basic 8 point
2 - Advance 8 point
3 - Master Blocking system (Master LSA Registration required)

Sparring

The LSA system uses a 1 minute continuous sparring, similar to boxing. The scoring is as follows:

1 - Rate: 1-10 on Combat Quality, which includes offense, defense as well as marital quality
2 - Rate: 1-5 on Style,  which includes moves, spins,  rolls, costume and overall presentation

LSA sparring is intended to focus on participant safety, martial quality as well as being enjoyable for both spectators and participants to watch. While point sparring focuses on reach and distance, the LSA system focuses on defense and flow of movement from one exchange to another.

SAFETY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of any training.

LSA always encourages participants to maintain the highest level of safety. NO SPARRING should be done without proper armor, padding and safety equipment. It is up to maintain a safe environment. In LSA exhibition sparring, heavy armor, fencing masks, protective gloves, and even metal gorgets are used to maintain the highest level of participant safety.
