Training - Advanced Wing Blocks
Wing Blocks are considered blocks that generally are on the outside of one arm, with the pummel higher than the guard on the hilt. These very versatile blocks can be used to cover almost any section of the body. The weakness with wing blocks is that they generally cover one half of the body and require the swordsman / woman to predict which side the attack is coming from in order to use the block most effectively. The wing block can be used across the body to defend thrusts, on the outside to defend the side, and angled to defend the head. They can also provide a very strong counter attack. But they do require two movements to counter attack, and as such lack the speed that other defenses, like counter cuts have in terms of immediate return strikes.
